On The Road with Mann Travels – North Carolina Mountains

As travel restrictions begin to loosen up, we know travelers are ready to end their months of lockdown and do some exploring. We also understand the first adventure might be a domestic road trip. This blog series, ON THE ROAD with MANN TRAVELS was developed with that in mind. Please enjoy these ideas and itineraries designed to inspire you to visit the USA – from sea to shining sea!

Right in our own backyard, the mountains of western North Carolina provide a backdrop for a marvelous road trip. Socially distancing will be easy as you enjoy the wide open spaces of the Appalachians and enjoy great food, gorgeous scenery and a vibrant art scene.

mtmitchell2Heading west out of Charlotte, your journey will take you toward the breathtaking views on the Blue Ridge Parkway and the highest mountain peak on the East Coast. Mount Mitchell State Park opened many hiking trails earlier this month so visitors can enjoy the gorgeous scenery, the abundance of flora and fauna, ancient waterfalls and even pack for a mile-high picnic.

One of the highlights of your visit to Asheville is a tour of the historic Biltmore estate and its gardens. Built by George Vanderbilt, the Biltmore is the largest home in the US – now a historic museum. The French Renaissance castle features 250 rooms and it is now open with reduced hours and some limitations. Visitors to the historic mansion are also treated to the beautiful gardens and famous winery.

The inviting, elegant decor, on-site restaurant and wonderful spa makes this property a favorite for Asheville visitors. Another wonderful hotel is the Kimpton Hotel Arras. Designed to capture the eclectic local arts community, the hotel is a historic conversion of a former bank building and is located in the heart of downtown Asheville. Mann Travels’ relationship with both these properties means we can provide special amenities when you book your stay with us.

A visit to the area should also include a visit to one of the many breweries all over town. Other options for visitors include a day of biking to enjoy the scenery or a cultural tour on the city’s Gray Line Trolley.

Treat yourself to a visit to Asheville this summer, or even this fall, when the leaves change the stunning backdrop to bold oranges and yellows. Call a Mann Travels advisor today to help plan the perfect road trip.
